Ben Wandei & Kizito Gamba - Be Kids Program

Bernad Otieno Wandei was born in Nairobi, Kenya. He is the 6th born out of 8 children and grew up in Korogocho community in Nairobi. He is otherwise known as Oti, Otieno, Ben and Bena. He lives in Perth with his wife and daughter. His work background in Kenya included areas of civic education, community development, community radio, film and documentary making.in Western Australia, Ben completed a Bachelor in Film and a Master’s Degree  in Human Rights Education from Edith Cowan University and Curtin University respectively. In Western Australia Ben has worked in areas of migrant and refugee resettlement, youth work, employment recruitment, education and training in Perth and remote communities in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. He is currently working with children and young people in Perth. (Masters Human Rights, B. Creative Industries - Film & Video, Adv Dip Mass Comms, Dip Comm Dev)


Born and bred in Nairobi, Kizito Gamba first developed a taste for writing news articles when he joined his high school’s Journalism Club in 2008. Two years later, Kizito was among a special group that was selected to represent his school in a two-week exchange program in Sweden. It was during this program that he gained his first exposure to the art of visual storytelling. After high school, Kizito completed a six months training course at K-Youth Media. “With a scholarship from Be Kids Australia Inc, I was able to further my tertiary education at Jamuhuri Film and Television, currently known as the Africa Digital Media Institute.” As part of the Give Back Project and accessing a BKA grant, Kizito took charge of teaching remedial classes at Ngunyumu Primary School in Korogocho and also served as a mentor in a leadership project with iLead group.

Mongolia

Peter was born in Calcutta and worked for BHP for many years in the Kimberleys. He has travelled the world extensively and now runs his 22 year old industrial supply business to mine sites in Africa, Middle-East, Central Asia, Mongolia and S E Asia. Since 2011 he has been the Honorary Consul for Mongolia in Western Australia. His wife Barbara and their 3 daughters Laura, Meghan & Narah were all born in Calcutta, India and all the family have lived in Perth, WA for 38 years. Barbara was a teacher.

Ochirbat Naidansuren (Ogi) is a Mongolian artist, art teacher and scholar. He was born in Mongolia in 1964. Obtained his art education in Mongolia, Bulgaria and employed as lecturer, head of art department at the Mongolian State Pedagological University from 1992 to 2003. Immigrated to Australia in 2005. Ochirbat currently tutors at JETA program in the art department at Curtin University where he completed his doctoral studiy recently.

Geraldine Wooller

Geraldine Wooller was born in Perth in 1941 and educated at Sacred Heart girls’ college where a love of music and European languages was fostered.  She worked as a teacher and arts administrator and currently is a writer and editor of literary fiction, with a dozen short stories and four books published; a fifth novel is under publisher’s consideration.  Geraldine has taken out a Masters and a PhD in creative writing from the University of WA.  She has enjoyed travelling widely in Europe, Africa and Australia.
